Hildegard von Bingen – The Healing Power of her Symbols – Cards
The symbols introduced in this set of cards can be used by individuals at their own responsibility and can also be integrated into the work of people in counselling and therapeutic professions.
They are not intended to be used as diagnostic or therapeutic methods, and should not be used in place of diagnosis or medical treatment in the event of illness.
The symbols of Hildegard von Bingen are unique and highly effective for persons on their road towards greater awareness and healing. This set of symbol cards perfectly complements the book “Hildegard von Bingen – The Healing Power of her Symbols”. Every symbol is allocated to a letter so that every person can gain insight into his or her own personal life plan by linking the symbols to his or her name. They can be used by any individual person but are also superbly suited to complement the work of therapists.
The symbols
The symbols of Hildegard von Bingen consist of 23 characters that are each allocated to one letter of the alphabet. According to the spelling rules of the times j and i, as well as u and v/w were written the same. The 24. and 25. symbols are the Latin et est (so be it). The symbols are so-called litterae ignotae (unknown letters) from the Major Code (Manuscript 2), Hessian State Library Wiesbaden, and were developed during the years from about 1180 to 1190.
Decoding
During the attempt of decoding these symbols an amazing phenomenon emerged: they seem to be complementing the medical and healing knowledge of Hildegard, not on a physical level but on a spiritual and mental level. According to Hildegard’s understanding, health is only possible where body and soul are in harmony. Thus the symbols present a great opportunity on the road to heightened awareness and healing at all levels.
Traude Bollig, Ingrid Richter and Gisela Keul contributed to the decoding.
As point of departure for the decoding they applied
- the kinesiological muscle test,
- meditative feeling and grasping, as well as
- mediumistic information.
During this process core topics emerged, i.e. it became increasingly clear that the individual symbols can be allocated to specific topic areas.
Other applications, e.g. creating the cosmic personality triangle, can be found in the book – Traude Bollig, Hildegard von Bingen, The Healing Power of her Symbols, ISBN 978-3-902280-9902
